Canada may still be waiting for the Innovation Strategy action plan but Industry Canada is busy following up on last November’s summit with a series of targeted national workshops. The first was held in Winnipeg and focused on best practices for innovation–based community economic development.

Last month’s federal Budget announcement of an additional $75 million in funding for Genome Canada is being viewed as a vote of confidence in an organization that is only beginning to show tangible results.
The British Columbia government has authorized funding for projects awarded to Genome BC, nearly two years after the original announcements were made. The prov-ince is allocating $27.5 million for the five research projects and one infrastructure project won by Genome BC under Genome Canada’s first competition.
