Funding, access secure for two years

The Canadian Neutron Beam Centre (CNBC) has been transferred back to Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd (AECL). The move, effective April 1st, comes with a commitment of just two years of funding as the federal government implements a government-owned, company-operated (GoCo) management structure for the crown corporation and decides whether to continue long-term nuclear research at the Chalk River facility.

The fate of nuclear research in Canada and the future role of Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd (AECL) will be decided as early as 2014 during a process to transform the crown corporation into a government-owned, company-operated (GoCo) organization.

Canadian academic research institutions spent an average of $3.2 million on research for each invention disclosure and an average of $30.1 million to generate a successful patent, translating into 0.031 patents for every $1 million of $5.
