Annual research income at Canada’s top 50 research universities increased only slightly in fiscal year 2020 while the top 50 research colleges had a nearly 21-per-cent jump in research income, according to annual rankings in reports by Research Infosource Inc.

R&D spending Canadian companies grew at a modest 1.3% in 2016 to reach $12.8 billion, according to a report of Top 100 Corporate R&D Spenders. The growth in FY16, however, pales in comparison to the 6.9% increase between 2014 and 2015.
